Topoxetine hydrochloride is a hydrochloride form of the nervous system medication topoxetine. It is a neurotransmitter reuptake inhibitor for the treatment of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. Topoxetine is a selective norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor (SNRI) with a structure similar to fluoxetine. The drug, the first stimulant approved for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), has also not been shown in clinical trials to induce the typical response of other stimulants or drugs that can lead to feelings of euphoria. Randomized, placebo-controlled trials in children and adults have demonstrated its efficacy in treating ADHD. An open, open-label, randomized, controlled trial found the drug to be as effective in treating ADHD, but more randomized, double-blind clinical trials are needed to confirm this conclusion.
