Febantel, also known as phenylthiouguanidine, is mainly used for the treatment and control of gastrointestinal roundworm, lungworm and tapeworm in cattle, sheep, pigs, horses and other animals. As a precursor, it is metabolized in vivo (cyclization) to the antiparasitic drug fenbendazole or further metabolized (sulfur atom oxidation) to opendazole.
