Teicoplanin is a glycopeptide antibiotic produced by the fermentation of Actinomyces mobilis. It is a new generation of glycopeptide antibiotics developed after vancomycin. One of the antibiotics, compared with vancomycin, it has stronger fat solubility, longer half-life, good body fluid distribution, mild adverse drug reactions, can be administered intravenously or intramuscularly, and is more convenient to use.
Clinically, it is mainly used for penicillin- and cephalosporin-resistant Gram-positive bacterial infections, such as endocarditis, osteomyelitis, sepsis, and infections of the respiratory tract, urinary tract, and skin.
